Job Description

Are you an experienced Teaching Assistant or Learning Support Assistant?

Do you have experience working with young learners who have Special Educational Needs?

Are you looking for a new and exciting challenge?

We are looking for a number of staff to work in Rochester, Cliffe and Gravesend with children and young learners who have a diagnosis of ASC.  Experience working in an educational setting with pupils with SEND is ideal, but if you have experience fostering, social work or other relatable experience, please do get in touch.

Knowledge and Skills Required:

  • Sensitivity and understanding
  • Patience and the ability to remain calm in stressful situations
  • To enjoy working with other people
  • To be flexible and open to change
  • Excellent verbal communication skills
  • The ability to understand people’s reactions
  • Active listening skills
  • Basic computer or hand held technical device knowledge (for logging information.)
  • To understand the importance of handling confidential information correctly
  • Knowledge of Special Educational Needs

Once in an educational setting, it’s vital to have the following:

  • An understanding of the school policies and practices
  • Know who the designated safeguarding leads are and how to report concerns
  • Understand how to respond to challenging behaviour, following the school’s Wellbeing Policy and using strategies shared through bespoke training.

Building Positive Relationships

The relationships formed between pupils and Teaching Assistants are vital.  Pupils need to trust the adults supporting them and feel safe at all times.

Teaching Assistants are encouraged to think carefully about how they can establish and foster positive relationships with the children they work with, without fostering dependence on a particular adult.

All adults that work with young people, whether in SEND or mainstream, are essential role models:  they must model appropriate and positive communication and interaction skills so that young people can develop these skills for themselves.

Roles Available

We have a number of roles in various locations accross across Kent - from HLTA positions, PSHE, general LSA positions in mainstream schools, TA 1:1 and classroom roles within SEND schools and colleges.

Do not hesitate to get in touch - we may have your next dream job waiting for you!
